Baby Luau at Hanalani Garden

In Hawaii, when we say we’re going to celebrate, we mean it – and it’s always a good time – and when it comes to celebrating the first birthday of a little one, we go all out! A Baby Luau, or a first-year birthday celebration, is one of the most joyful and meaningful traditions we have in the islands. But, trust me, it’s not just any birthday party. When we say we celebrate, we really celebrate!

Why Do We Celebrate a Baby’s First Birthday in Hawaii?
In Hawaiian culture, a baby’s first birthday holds a significant place in our hearts. It’s said that in the past, it was a big deal when a child reached their first year of life, and it was seen as a huge blessing. This milestone was worthy of a grand celebration, and that tradition has carried on in modern times. The first birthday is a time to honor the baby’s health, to give thanks to the ‘Aloha spirit (the loving energy) that surrounds the family, and to celebrate the beautiful life that has begun. For us, it’s a moment to gather everyone together and share love, laughter, and of course, ono grinds (“good food”)

Baby Luau at Hanalani Garden
We had the great honor to welcome this wonderful Baby Luau at Hanalani Garden. It wasn’t just a birthday cake – there were photo booths, plenty of local ono grinds, yummy drinks, with live performance from talented local artists, a play pen for the kids, balloon globes, and even shave ice!!! At Hanalani Garden we LOVE to see love ones gather to celebrate!
